UPDATE 2/21/17 - According to Sgt. Stephen Wheeles, an autopsy was completed on Justin Holland, 25, of Moores Hill, Indiana at the Dearborn County Hospital.
The autopsy indicated that Holland's cause of death was likely as a result of a single gunshot wound. The final pathologist's report may take weeks to be finished, he said, adding that toxicology results are also pending. ---- By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News OHIO COUNTY --- A 25-year-old man was shot and killed by a nearby resident as he reportedly fought with a conservation officer this afternoon in southern Indiana. "The female fired one shot from a personally owned firearm at [Justin] Holland, striking him in the torso," Indiana State Police Sgt. Stephen Wheeles explained, adding that the Indiana conservation officer was at the scene in resonse to a report of a suspicious person in the 8300 Block of SR 56, west of the city of Rising Sun. According to Indiana State Police, the conservation officer arrived to find Justin K. Holland, of Moores Hill, Ind.,near a vehicle parked along SR 56, at about 12:30 p.m. "At some point during their interaction, Holland began to resist the officer and became involved in a physical altercation with the officer," Wheeles said. He noted that the female had responded to "assist the officer who was being overtaken by Holland." Wtnesses and EMS renderered first aid at the scene before the shooting victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he died a short time later from gunshot wound injuries. The conservation officer reportedly suffered non-life threatening injuries in the altercation and was aslo transported to the hospital. ISP is limiting information at this time, while the investigating is ongoing. The identities of the conservation officer and of the woman involved in the shooting are not be released to the public at this stage of the investigation.
