Woman knocks out fire hydrant in a.m. crash

Only minor injuries were reported when a woman lost control of her vehicle, striking a fire hydrant this morning.

Indiana State University Police and Terre Haute Fire EMT responded to the scene at N.Ninth and Spruce Streets around 5:30 a.m. The Mercury Mystique sustained some front-end damage and the fire hydrant was knocked out of place.

The woman stated she was driving on the one-way street and began hearing loud sounds. She said that was when her steering column locked up, causing her to lose control and crash.

Indiana American Water was notified and will be making necessary repairs.
