UPDATE 6-12-17: Wabash Valley Correctional Facility offender Quentin Phipps has been charged with an arson charge in Sullivan Circuit Court.
"An arrest warrant charging him with Level 4 Felony Arson was served today by Indiana State Police Master Trooper Tom Hanks," Public Information Officer Rich Larsen said today. ---- By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News SULLIVAN COUNTY -- Officials are crediting quick action this morning for stopping a cell house fire from spreading at a Carlisle prison. According to Public information Officer Rich Larsen, Wabash Valley Correctional Facility investigators believe the mid-morning fire, in the restricted status Custody Control Unit , was deliberately set by offender Quentin Phipps., 30. The WVCF inmate is serving a 61- year sentence on Vanderburgh County convictions for attempted murder, robbery, escape, car theft, criminal recklessness and possession of a dangerous device (out of Sullivan County.) Phipps now faces a level 4 felony charge of arson. "Video surveillance indicates an electrical outlet was tampered with by Phipps, triggering the small fire," Larsen said, noting there were no injuries and no serious damage in the area of the mid-morning fire.
The 23 other offenders housed in the unit reportedly were evacuated without incident.
"All offenders are now back in their assigned cells while cleanup of the unit continues," Larsen said. Phipps earliest release date had been set for September of 2062. Comments are closed.
