Indiana Central News A Terre Haute Police Department investigation landed two Terre Haute men behind bars after they allegedly battered and robbed a man on the city's north side earlier in the month. The victim was hospitalized for injuries suffered in the incident --- in which investigators say could have killed him. Both suspects are currently being held in the Vigo County Jail on multiple charges, including attempted murder of the man.
According to the probable cause affidavit, prepared by Det. Keith Mowbray, of the Terre Haute Police Department, officers responded to the 1900 block of Sixth Avenue the evening of July 8. Upon officers’ arrival, the victim was at a neighbor’s house, where he had gone to seek help. He was bleeding from the back of his head. The victim was “visually injured and shook up.” An ambulance was called to render aid. The victim told officers of the abuse he endured during the robbery by his former step son, Marshall, and his accomplice. “[The victim] reported that a known subject, along with an unknown subject, robbed him of approximately $1,200 and two debit cards after they battered him, taped him to a chair, cut his oxygen line so he couldn’t breathe, took the tank oxygen tank and fled the residence,” according to the documents. When Marshall was taken into custody, he reportedly told investigators, “He and Dereck Worthington had talked about going over to [The victims] residence, due to it being an easy score." The investigation continued while the victim was in Union Hospital and detectives talked more with him about the incident. The victim reported that he had not seen Marshall in a while. According to the documents, Marshall knocked on his door after hearing the victim had a lot of cash in the house. Under the pretense of wanting to talk about his half -sister with the victim, the victim let Marshall inside his residence earlier in the day. “Where’s the money at?” [The victim] told investigators Marshall asked him. “At that time, another white male in his mid to late 30s with tattoos on both arms, from the elbows down, entered the residence and both Jon and the other white male pointed handguns at him,” according to the affidavit. He was struck in the back of the head with a gun, knocking him to the floor before they allegedly tied him to the chair. After grabbing the ATM cards, cash and some jewelry, Marshall allegedly said, “We’ll be back to kill you if there’s no money in the account.” Comments are closed.
