Indiana Central News The Terre Haute Police Department is investigating reports of three early morning robberies centered in the same area of the city and occurring throughout the weekend --- all allegedly involving robbers fleeing on foot after forcing several victims to hand over their personal items near the Indiana State University campus. The most recent report, the third incident, involved a suspect allegedly armed with a gun Sunday morning. Just before 4 a.m.,THPD officers were dispatched to the 900 block of South Sixth Street on a report of the robbery. Two suspects allegedly approached the victim as he was getting into his vehicle when leaving a party, Sgt. Denzil Lewis explained today. "One subject was armed with a gun. The victim said that he surrendered several items to both suspects, at which time both suspects fled the scene," Lewis said. The string of the three robberies began early Friday, with the first of the three reports for the weekend coming in early that morning. Officers were alerted to the area of South Sixth and Deming Streets on a report an intoxicated female just after midnight. A woman at the scene reportedly informed responding officers that she had been battered and that items had been taken from her, Lewis said. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she was treated and released. Lewis said she was unable to recall details during a follow-up interview on the incident. "The victim told officers that she didn’t remember any events and couldn’t explain why she told officers the first version of events," Lewis said. The second robbery occured Saturday morning. THPD officers were dispatched to the area of South Seventh and Park Streets on report of a robbery at just after 4:30 a.m. Lewis explained that the victim had stated that she was walking home from a party and was confronted by three suspects. "The victim said that the subjects took several items from the victim and fled on foot,"Lewis said. Anyone having knowledge of any of the listed incidents is urged to call the Terre Haute Police Department or Wabash Valley Crime Stoppers. |
