A Terre Haute teen is in jail after allegedly killing another minor during a party early this morning.

Nathan G. Derickson, 19, was booked into the Vigo County Jail around 6:15 a.m. He is charged with reckless homicide.

The Vigo Co. Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death in the Idle Creek Subdivision  after receiving a call stating an individual in the home had been shot  around 1:30 a.m

Upon arrival,  deputies and fire personnel  determined the individual with the gunshot wound had died from his injury, Lt. Brian DeHart explained.

"During the course of the party a firearm was displayed and eventually pointed at the victim," DeHart said, noting  the victim’s name is being withheld until family members can be notified. ​

Several people from the party held at the residence were taken to the Vigo Co. Sheriff’s Office to be interviewed and informed investigators that the group of minors had been drinking alcohol.

The Vigo County Sheriff's Office is investigating a crash that injured several this evening in the northern part of the county.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of N. US 41 and E. Evans Avenue around 5:30 p.m. Information is limited at this time; however, at least four victims were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash. Two victims were treated and released from the scene by Otter Creek Fire Department personnel, according to scanner traffic. The vehicles reprotedly sustained heavy damage.
