UPDATE- This afternoon, Investigators recovered a firearm they believe was used in the shooting at Eighth and Oak Streets early this morning, according to THPD Chief Shawn Keen. The victim, Justin Gasaway, is now believed to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound and is undergoing treatment for injuries. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
---- The Terre Haute Police Department is investigating an early morning shooting after a man was hospitalized with injuries from reportedly being shot in the chest. Officers were dispatched to the area of Eighth and Oak Streets just after 1 a.m. today. "Upon arrival, officers spoke to a 28- year- old male who indicated that he had been shot by a black male after a verbal altercation in the street. The male was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and was conscious and alert when speaking with officers,' Chief of Police Shawn Keen said. The Terre Haute Fire Department was dispatched to 1659 Fourth Avenue early this morning.
Flames were reportedly seen coming from a detached garage when firefighters arrived at the scene just after 2:15 a.m. The crews had the blaze quickly under control. The structure was a complete loss. Two nearby houses sustained damage to siding. No one was hurt in the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. |
