By Lucy Perry News Writer Indiana Central New A Terre Haute teenager died just a week ago from gun-related violence and officials say they've nabbed the juvenile suspects and have evidence linking them to the murder. The gunshot victim: Chloe Carroll, 15, was fatally shot in the head while sitting in the back seat of an SUV parked outside a gas station, located at S. 13th and Poplar Streets, last Friday. Emergency crews found the vehicle and the shooting victim just after midnight, a few blocks east of the incident. Chloe was transported to a nearby hospital, where she died a short time later. Information available on the case has been vague. However, according to the probable cause affidavit, filed by Det. Julia Piety, of The Terre Haute Police Department, the shooting occurred while Scherb was inside the gas station. Police reportedly found a Springfield Armory 9mm handgun on Scherb. They say it had recently been reported stolen from a local resident's vehicle.
Scherb was found at a S. 15th Street residence, where the suspect and his mother consented to a search of his backpack and a black pouch in his possession. Scherb reportedly confessed to carrying the gun around for a while. "Cody admitted to being the owner of the handgun and said that he has carried it with him for the past few weeks," Piety stated in the court documents. Any other possible evidence and specific details regarding the case are not provided by officials. --- See related story ![]() By Lucy Perry News Writer Indiana Central News Multiple law enforcement agencies assisted the Terre Haute Police Department in apprehending a suspect in a high speed pursuit beginning from the mall eastbound into Clay County on Interstate -70 Monday afternoon. Damond D. Cobb, 24, of Indianapolis, was booked into the Vigo County Jail around 2:15 p.m. He is charged with criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement, dealing cocaine or narcotic drug, possession of cocaine or narcotic drug, reckless driving and leaving the scene of a property damage crash. Officers noted he was observed tossing out several baggies and other possible evidence out of the car window during the pursuit. According to scanner traffic, the brown Chevrolet passenger car fled an attempted traffic stop at high speeds, reaching about 100 miles per hour onto I-70. Ultimately, the car crashed into a ditch off the highway, where the suspect put his hands above his head and surrendered to police.

UPDATE 7-26-21 from Terre Haute Police Department:The female Victim was identified as fifteen-year-old Chloe Carroll of Terre Haute. She was shot at the gas station located at S. 13th and Poplar Streets before being located in the back seat of an SUV in the 1900 block of Poplar Street a short time later. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. UPDATE 7-26-21 from Terre Haute Police Department: During this investigation another juvenile, male 17 yrs. old was arrested for possession of a firearm by a child, possession of controlled substance (marijuana), theft of a firearm and unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle. He was taken to the Vigo County Juvenile Center, where his case is pending. UPDATE 7/23/21 - THPD Detectives have arrested a 15- year- old male for murder, attempted murder, aggravated battery, criminal recklessness and possession of a firearm without a permit. The male was transported to the Vigo County Juvenile Center. -- UPDATE 7/23/21- Terre Haute Police confirm the shooting victim is a 15-year-old girl. She did not survive her injuries. -- By Lucy Perry News Writer Indiana Central News A Terre Haute Police Department shooting investigation is underway after one person was found suffering from a gunshot wound early Friday morning. This is a developing story and information is limited at this time. Emergency crews responded to the area near S. 19th and Poplar Streets around 1 a.m. Officers rendered first aid to the victim until paramedics arrived. The victim was transported to the hospital, bleeding heavily from the head, according to scanner traffic. Reports of gunshots fired at a nearby gas station, at S. 13th and Poplar Streets, were received a short time before the victim was found. THPD officers have taped off both scenes, as the investigation continues. This story will be updated as more information becomes available. |
