Indiana Central News Throughout the three -day diesel truck event last weekend, Indiana Excise Police officers cited or arrested 129 people whom now face more than 150 charges in all. Excise Officers worked with Vigo County Sheriff’s Department and the Indiana State Police at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds and surrounding areas during the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza in Terre Haute. Indiana Central News With an increase in traffic during the annual diesel truck event in Terre Haute comes an increase in arrests and citations. The Indiana State Police Putnamville District issued 174 more traffic citations this year than during last year's three-day Scheid Diesel Extravaganza.. Troopers also made more criminal arrests during their Friday and Saturday patrols this year. In fact, 77 were arrested on misdemeanor charges and four on felony charges, compared to last year's 44 misdemeanor and four felony arrests. Sgt. Joe Watts explained that this year's criminal arrest numbers reflect miscellaneous drug and alcohol violations and suspects wanted on warrants. He noted less calls for service this time around, which he believes enabled troopers to focus more on traffic and criminal enforcement. "The increase in numbers is a combination of more troopers working the detail, troopers working the federally funded operation pull over currently ongoing. Other factors, such as driver behavior and more attendees, may play a part as well," Watts said. ISP provides extra patrols each year during the event in effort to ensure safety on and off the fairgrounds, Watts said.
