tTerre Haute Fire Department crews rushed to the scene where a family was trapped on the second floor of their northside home after a fire broke out late this morning. Crews were dispatched to the house at North 20th and Linden Streets at 11:30 a.m. and assisted a man, woman and two children who were all able to escape out a window by ladder.. A neighbor said heavy smoke was seen coming from the top of the house.. The family members were treated for smoke inhalation at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time. ![]()
An 86-year-old man suffered a medical condition that caused him to run off the roadway, crashing into a power pole while he was eastbound on Davis Avenue today, according to a Vigo County Sheriff's Office report.
Deputies responded to the scene where David J. Moore, of Seelyville, had crashed at the intersection of East Davis Avenue and North Meneely Street in Nevins Township, just before 5 p.m. Crews treated Moore at the scene and then transported him to a local hospital. East Davis Avenue was partially closed for 45 minutes while Duke Energy evaluated the pole and the vehicle was removed from the scene, according to the report. Responding Deputies: Deputy Barts and Deputy Spier Agencies: Vigo County Sheriff's Office, Otter Creek Fire Department, Nevins Fire Department, Transcare Ambulance “During discussions with the driver, (the trooper) noticed the smell of what appeared to be burnt marijuana and that the driver displayed classic signs of possible intoxication,” ![]() An Indianapolis man was arrested this morning after Indiana State Police radar tracked him traveling at 67 miles-per-hour in a 30 mph zone. The ISP trooper soon discovered the suspect had several outstanding warrants in Vigo County. Calvin R. Davis, age 44, was booked into the Vigo County Jail after refusing a chemical test for intoxication. He is charged with operating while intoxicated (refusal) and driving while suspended. Sgt. Joe Watts explained that a routine check of Davis’s driver’s license revealed he had no valid license and was wanted out of Vigo County Superior Court 3 for count 1: Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon; Count 2: Battery by Deadly Weapon; Count 3: Intimidation; Count 4: Carrying a Handgun without a License (Misdemeanor) and Count 5: Carrying a Handgun without a License (felony). The bond on the warrant was $75,000 with no 10 percent.
According to the report, Master Trooper Jason Schoffstall Schoffstall stopped the eastbound 2013 Chevrolet Impala on Hulman Street, near Watertree Subdivision just before 11 a.m.
