Indiana Central News A Clinton woman is charged with attempted murder after police say she recently stabbed an elderly man -- also her ex-boyfriend-- multiple times at his home on Liberty Avenue in Terre Haute. Dawn M. Bailey, 46, was booked into the Vigo County Jail Oct. 20 on an unrelated warrant for battery with a deadly weapon and escape from lawful detention. The Terre Haute Police Department added the charge of attempted murder from this case to those charges yesterday. When emergency crews arrived on scene , the 75-year-old victim's shirt was blood-soaked. Several people met arriving officers and stated the victim had suffered multiple stab wounds. At the hospital, a short time later, the doctor told officers the victim had been stabbed eight times and had a suffered a collapsed left lung as a result of the attack. According to the probable cause affidavit, prepared by Detective Devon Huebner, of the Terre Haute Police Department, he was working a detail organized by THPD during Indiana State University's Homecoming Oct. 12 when emergency crews were dispatched to 1613 Liberty Avenue around 10 p.m. The man was inside the residence and being treated for stabbing wounds, upon his arrival. Huebner described a bloody scene, with blood observed on the bed and floor in the room. He noticed a knife with a black handle and bent blade on the floor. The victim said he has known the suspect for about six months and had been recently involved with her sexually until she allegedly forged several checks in his name. The night of the attack, she had returned to apologize and was seeking more money, he told investigators. He said, although his memory is vague after she asked for the money, he recalls telling her he had none to give. He told investigators he remembers falling to the floor at that point, feeling as though he was being punched. His dog allegedly defended him, and the suspect later said the dog bit her. She then fled the scene, according to the report. When the attack was over, the victim went to his bedroom and noticed the blood. He called his daughter to come quickly. Bailey denies hurting the man and said, in addition to his dog biting her that night, he allegedly had been "pushing her around." Bailey is set to appear in Vigo Co. Superior Court Div. 6 the afternoon of Feb. 18. See related http://www.indianacentralnews.com/terre-haute-news/emergency-crews-respond-to-report-of-stabbing-on-liberty-ave |
