VERMILLION COUNTY – A Vigo County man was taken into custody after fleeing police during a traffic stop in Vermillion County Friday. According to the report, deputies from the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Office and the Cayuga Marshal initiated a traffic stop at SR 63 and I-74 after a vehicle was observed to be driving erratically. Investigation revealed that passenger Zachary Krise, 31, of West Terre Haute, was wanted in Vigo County for felony burglary. He was booked in to the Vermillion County Jail, where he remains held without bond at this time, on the following charges -- after fleeing the vehicle and leading officers on a foot pursuit: Resisting law enforcement (Class A Misdemeanor), identity deception (Level 6 Felony) and will be held for the Vigo County warrant, pending local charges. When Krise was called from the vehicle, he reportedly fled on foot, eastbound, down the I-74 off-ramp. A K9 was used to locate the suspect in a wooded area. “Officers gave chase but lost Krise in the thick brush. Fountain County Deputy Clauson and his K-9 partner, Karlos, arrived on scene to track Krise. Karlos led officers to Krise, who was found hiding in a thick area of brush,"” according to the report. The two other occupants of the vehicle were identified as: Justine Johnston, 29, of Terre Haute, wanted in Vigo County for larceny/conversion. She transported to Vigo County in regards to her warrant. Justin Yatsko, 29, of Terre Haute, was listed as a missing person. Indiana Central News The Terre Haute Fire Department responded to a house fire near S. 17th and Poplar Streets late last night. Just before midnight, crews were dispatched to a home at 1615 Poplar Street on reports of smoke seen coming out of the structure. Upon arrival, firefighters saw fire coming from the back door of the house. It was not clear at the time if anyone had been inside. The home had overgrown bushes and trees blocking firefighters' attempts to gain entry. Duke Energy was called to the scene. The fire is under investigation at this time. |
