Indiana Central News A local repeat offender was arrested on a warrant Friday afternoon after doorbell video shows him acting suspiciously on a random porch earlier in the week. William A. Lewis, 42, of Terre Haute, was booked into the Vigo County Jail around 3:30 p.m. He is charged with level 4 felony residential entry and misdemeanor criminal mischief. Lewis is registered sex offender. He has been in the jail 10 previous times. His criminal history includes child molesting, drug and criminal trespassing charges, according to jail records. According to the probable cause affidavit, filed by Det. Mark Minnick, of the Terre Haute Police Department, Lewis was recently recorded on the resident’s Ring doorbell video -- allegedly making attempts to get inside her home in the middle of the night. He also allegedly was peeping in the windows. The suspect allegedly approached the woman’s porch on Brooks Avenue, on the city’s south side, around 2 a.m. Wednesday. “She stated you can hear him talking, trying windows, and knocking things over or moving them around, but he never made his way inside,” according to the court documents. He reportedly came back an hour or so later, allegedly attempting to open the door. The security alarm sounded and the man fled the scene on foot. Lewis allegedly caused slight damage to the property at the time. Minnick was able to confirm the man’s identity with other officers in the department familiar with the suspect.
