Terre Haute Police Department officers located a man wanted on an arrest warrant for a previous robbery while responding to a call regarding a stolen vehicle this morning -- at which point the suspect then fled with the patrol car he had just been placed into, handcuffed.
Cody Tryon, 28, was booked into the Vigo County Jail this afternoon on several charges, including: Battery against a public safety officer, criminal recklessness, auto theft, resisting law enforcement, escape, possession of marijuana, possession of meth, possession of paraphernalia, criminal mischief, theft, burglary while armed with a deadly weapon and robbery while armed with a deadly weapon. "While Officers were securing the scene of the stolen vehicle, Cody kicked out the metal screen that separates the inside front of the patrol car from the back. Cody slid through the opening, and drove away in the patrol car," Public Information Officer Ryan Adamson said. According to the report, the struggle to keep the suspect detained began when officers were dispatched to the area of North 22nd and Prairie Streets at about 9:30 a.m. in reference to the recovery of a stolen vehicle. Officers located Tryon, a suspect known to have an active warrant for robbery. Tryon was arrested, handcuffed behind his back, and placed into the back of a department patrol car before the suspect fled the scene in it, Adamson explained. Officers reportedly then tracked and located the patrol car via GPS to a Melton Avenue address and attempted to block the vehicle in with their patrol cars. Tryon then allegedly rammed several Terre Haute Police cars, Adamson said, noting that the suspect's hands were still restrained behind his back when detained the second time of the day.
