The Terre Haute Board of Public Works and Safety discussed settlement requests this afternoon during the meeting at City Hall. In considering two requests for settlement of Terre Haute Fire Department ambulance invoices, BPWS President Jon Stinson noted that the requests from attorneys are becoming "excessive" while containing limited financial information for the parties. "I understand that the person is without fault here, but I don't know if the city needs to eat those costs because we're not at fault either," Stinson said. ![]() Member Cary Sparks said he'd also like to see more financial information and whether or not the individuals are capable to pay the fees. He motioned in favor of tabling the requests and all members, including Stinson, Bob All, Jim Trimble and Roland Shetlon, voted in favor of waiting for additional information to take action. In other board business, City of Terre Haute Chief Planner Pat Martin updated the board on a property located 1807 Margaret Avenue that has been tied up with environmental testing. "We still haven't acquired the property; the property is still sitting in court," Martin said, explaining that further environmental testing is necessary with a cost is $1,500. The board approved the costs which will be covered by a Brownfield Program grant. -- In other BPWS business: The board opened proposals for financial lease for two dump trucks and will take the information, as provided by the two institutions, under advisement: Community Leasing Partners - Option 1) 5-year term, total financed of $294,200, interest 3.03 percent, total cost $319,397.85 Option; 2) 6-year term at 3.09 percent, total cost of lease $325,273.14 Option; 3) 7-year term, at 3.22 percent, total cost of $331,646.53 Riddell National Bank - Option 1) 5-year term, 3.15 percent interest, total interest $64,570.30; Option 2) 6-year term, 3.50 percent, total interest of $55,259.82 Option 3) 7-year term, 3.50 percent interest rate, total interest of $48,156.87.
