![]() A Terre Haute man was arrested in connection to a convenience store armed robbery that occurred last Friday, after a police officer received an anonymous tip. William M. Steed, 20, was booked into the Vigo County Jail at 11 a.m. yesterday. He is charged with criminal mischief and robbery while armed with a deadly weapon. According the probable cause affidavit prepared by Terre Haute Police Department Det. Rick Decker, Steed -- who appears to go by the name Michael Savage on social media -- was booked into the Vigo County Jail after confessing to the crime yesterday morning. Reportedly, a tip by a male who wished to remain anonymous, approached Sgt. Marc Phillips with information that the suspect had recently been "bragging" about robbing the Jiffy gas station at 25th Street and Eighth Avenue. "The subject advised that 'Michael' had money, cigarettes and lighters," the document states, adding that the suspect is believed to have a child living at the North 14 1/2 Street residence, where detectives ultimately executed a search warrant. Detectives recovered a Winchester handgun, 23 Bic lighters with the orange-colored holding tray from the home. According to the affidavit, the clerk recalled giving the suspect a few bills and some coins -- totaling around $22. He fled on foot with the items in a white plastic bag. She stated he was about 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighed about 150 pounds. The clerk told Police Officer David Brewer that the armed robbery suspect had ordered her at gunpoint to go behind the counter and get him cash out of the cash register . He demanded cigarettes once he got the money, and was seen grabbing several Bic lighters and a Snickers candy bar from the counter. The white male, wearing a all black clothing and a black mask and gloves walked into the store early in the morning last week as the clerk was sweeping the floor. The incident was captured on video in the store,confirming the suspect had pointed a handgun at the employee. Steed remains in custody after an initial court appearance this morning. His bond was set at $50,000, with no 10 percent allowed Comments are closed.
