Indiana Central News Emergency crews were dispatched to a fast food restaurant on a HAZMAT call on Terre Haute's north side this evening. According to scanner traffic, the manager of McDonald's on Lafayette Avenue reported a carbon dioxide (colorless gas) leak in the building. The building was evacuated. The Terre Haute Fire Department arrived on scene and inspected the area around 7:45 p.m. Employees outside the restaurant would not let cars or customers on the lot. A business spokeswoman declined comment on when it would reopen. The Vigo County Emergency Management Agency has been called to the scene at this time. According to scanner traffic, the McDonald's will not reopen until tomorrow sometime. In the meantime, no one is permitted in the building. More information will be provided once it becomes available.
