![]() The Terre Haute Board of Public Works and Safety approved a change in a contract regarding pet owners claiming pets back from the city animal shelter during its meeting today. BPWS administrator Robin Drummy noted The Terre Haute Humane Society at 1811 S. Fruitridge Avenue has not yet signed the annual contract, with changes to include a $70 payment to retrieve a pet. "When we take an animal to the humane shelter, we charge $70 per animal -- we're asking that when an animal is returned to its owner, they also have to pay that fee," Drummy explained. "So, we're asking for the city to be reimbursed when the owner picks up their pet." Members Cary Sparks, Jim Trimble, Roland Shelton and Jon Stinson were present. New member Bob All was not present. ![]() In other business The board approved several requests from St Patrick’s Church in preparation for the Irish Dash, which will start at 8 a.m. on March 12. The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade will follow the race, at 1 p.m. Attorney Richard Shagley explained that the painting of the shamrock on the road will take place March 10 from 9 a.m. to noon at the intersection of South 19th and Poplar Streets; The church will host the Irish Dash on March 12, closing the eastbound lane of Ohio Street from South 19th Street to Fruitridge Avenue, and South 19th Street from Ohio Street to Poplar Street; and the annual parade will temporarily close the westbound lane of Ohio Boulevard, from Corporate Square to South 19th Street, and South 19th Street from Ohio Street to Poplar Street.
