A Terre Haute man killed in a hit-and-run car crash today on the south side of the city has been identified as Shannon Orr, 46. His surviving passenger remains in the hospital for injuries suffered in the crash, according to a Terre Haute Police Department press release.
Two suspects have been arrested in connection to the fatal crash, according to Chief of Police John Plasse:
Emergency crews were dispatched to the crash just before 5 a.m. According to the report, Vigo County Central Dispatch received multiple calls regarding a collision at the intersections of South Eighth and Hulman Streets. Upon arrival, officers observed a 2008 Honda Ridgeline with extensive damage and two male occupants on the sidewalk of the southeast corner of the intersection. "Terre Haute Fire Department personnel were called to the scene and began to render aide to the two men. The driver of the Honda was determined to be deceased at the scene, and the passenger was transported to Regional Hospital with serious injuries," Plasse said. Noting that the suspect, Sheehy, had fled the scene, Plasse explained that officers quickly found an unoccupied 2004 GMC Yukon with what appeared to be blood in the driver’s area of the vehicle. He added that it was later discovered that it had been falsely reported as stolen. Just minutes after the calls on the crash, Vigo County Central Dispatch received a call from Jones, reporting that her 2004 GMC Yukon had been stolen from the gas station at North 13th and Locust Streets. Jones was brought to the Terre Haute Police Department for questioning regarding the crash. "Investigators learned that Jones had placed the Yukon in her name for loan purposes, but that it had always been in the possession of Anthony Sheehy. Investigators further learned that Sheehy had phoned Jones and instructed her to report the vehicle stolen just before she phoned the Vigo County Central Dispatch," Plasse said.
Hours later, at about 9:15 a.m., Sheehy was located at located 2118 S Eighth St., at the home of a relative.
"Investigators observed a cut to Sheehy’s hand that was still bleeding. Sheehy was transported to the Terre Haute Police Department for questioning. Investigators also obtained and executed a baker warrant to obtain blood and DNA samples for analysis and future comparison," Plasse said. Comments are closed.
