Indiana Central News An elderly New York man is dead after a dump truck crashed into his pickup truck on SR 641 in Terre Haute this morning. The 76 -year-old victim was transported to Methodist hospital by Lifeline helicopter, where he was pronounced dead by the Marion County Coroner’s office. His passenger-- also his widow -- was transported to Regional Hospital in Terre Haute where she was admitted with non-life threatening injuries, according to the Vigo County Sheriff's Office. Names will not be released until tomorrow, pending notification of family. Kevin Hall, 53, of Clinton, tested negative for alcohol and was treated and released from the scene. No mechanical problems with the vehicle were noted following an inspection. Emergency crews responded to the two-vehicle crash on SR 641, just south of the SR 46 interchange, around 9 a.m. According to the report, the elderly victim was southbound in his pickup truck, pulling a camper trailer. He reportedly was traveling at a lower speed, which prompted a dump truck to pass the truck and trailer. The pass was not successful. "The red Ford truck made a sudden left turn causing the dump truck to strike the pickup truck in the driver’s door," according to the sheriff's office, which was assisted by the Vigo County Fatal Crash Team, with Vigo County UAV’s also used at the scene. Vigo County EMA, Riley FD, Honey Creek FD, Transcare and Indiana State Police assisted at the scene. Comments are closed.
