UPDATE 2-14-19 - Officials now say recovery efforts are underway in search of a male with long hair. Initially, witnesses had assumed it was a woman.
- By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News Emergency crews responded to several witness accounts of an individual going into the frigid water of the Wabash River in Terre Haute tonight. "Witnesses informed officers they observed a female remove clothing and jump into the water," according to a Terre Haute Police Department press release. Crews responded to the area in Fairbanks Park at about 6:15 p.m. According to scanner traffic, a sweatshirt officials believe belongs to the missing woman was found near the river bank. This is a developing story. More information will be released as it becomes available. Sugar Creek Fire is on scene assisting with the water search. Other agencies assisting at the scene include Vigo County Sheriff's Office, Honey Creek Fire Department, Terre Haute Fire Department and Indiana Conservation Officers.
