Indiana Central News One man was Lifelined to an Indianapolis hospital after slamming into a truck hauling construction chemicals on Interstate 70 in Vigo County early Saturday morning. Michael Nave, of North Webster, Indiana, was transported to a local hospital and then flown to IU Medical Center in Indianapolis. He is listed in stable condition at this time. Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse explained today that Nave had to be extricated from his Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and suffered severe trauma from the crash. Spyridon Visvardis, of Oaklawn, Illinois, was driving a commercial flatbed truck while delivering construction supplies at the time of the accident. He did not report injuries at the scene; However, the load contained several hundred gallons of epoxy, which spilled out and resulted in lengthy road closure while crews worked the scene. Emergency crews responded to the two-vehicle crash in the westbound lanes of I-70 on the Wabash River bridge near West Terre Haute around 6:15 a.m. According to the report, Visvardis was in the passing lane, turning left into the median. Nave was in the passing lane directly behind the flat bed truck. " It appeared that the Chevrolet pickup rear- ended the flatbed truck at a high rate of speed, causing severe damage to the Chevrolet pickup," Plasse said. He added that it took time for the responding Haz Mat Team and Eddington wrecker service to clean up the area and make the interstate safe for travel. Sugar Creek Fire Department, Indiana State Police and Trans-Care ambulance assisted the Vigo Co. Sheriff's Office at the scene. Comments are closed.
