A man and a woman were arrested Monday evening after leading law enforcement officers, including a K-9 unit, on a chase near Fowler Park in southern Vigo County.
Chance Kernstein, 31, of Lewis, allegedly resisted officers after an attempted traffic stop. According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office, as Kerstein was later being taken into custody, a large caliber handgun was found beneath where he had been hiding. He is charged with felony fleeing, resisting law enforcement, criminal recklessness, possession of a firearm by a felon and auto theft. Crystal Bradeaux, 30, of Farmersburg, is charged with possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and resisting law enforcement. According to the report, a Vigo County Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop on a black Ford Mustang with an expired plate on S. US 41 at the Allendale Hill Speedway Station, just before 5 p.m. Reportedly, the driver of the vehicle refused to stop and led the deputy through southeastern Vigo County roadways. Dust from gravel roads caused the deputy to lose sight of the suspect vehicle. A short time later, the vehicle was found abandoned at a lake on Beagle Drive and it was believed that the suspects had fled into a nearby woods. Investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen out of Washington, Indiana. Law enforcement from the Vigo County Sheriff's Office, Indiana State Police, West Terre Haute Police and Department of Natural Resources set up a perimeter and began a K9 search of the area. Two suspects were later located hiding in the woods. Both suspects are scheduled to appear Tuesday morning in Division 1 Court. Comments are closed.
