Emergency crews are responding to reports of multiple slide-offs and crashes this afternoon and advise if travel isn't necessary, Terre Haute residents should avoid driving due to icy conditions.
The Terre Haute Police Department and Terre Haute Fire Department are currently blocking off a section of Margaret Avenue between Fruitridge Avenue and S. 25th Street after several vehicles lost control going down a steep hill there. A woman at the scene said she was lucky to avoid crashing with the others just before 4:30 p.m., but witnessed at least 10 vehicles in a short time go off the roadway. One car hit a tree, she said, adding that no injuries appeared to be serious. Temperatures began to drop after a brief dusting of snow in the area. The Terre Haute Street Department is making rounds at this time to treat the roads with sand. Comments are closed.
