Indiana Central News A Terre Haute man is accused of murder after police say he allegedly fatally shot one man and shot and injured another man at a residence on the city's east side last weekend. Evan Pershing, 26, of Terre Haute was found dead on the floor after being shot multiple times. Durend M. Randall, 36, of Terre Haute, was booked into the Vigo County Jail Saturday evening and is charged with murder, aggravated battery, possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and resisting law enforcement. Witnesses allege there was a struggle over a gun between the injured man and the suspect --reportedly brothers --when (Durend) Randall allegedly fired more rounds at Pershing's chest, who had already been shot in his back. According to the probable cause affidavit, filed by Detective Keith Mowbray, of the Terre Haute Police Department, the investigation began when a 28-year-old gunshot wound victim named Antwane Randall sought medical care at a local hospital emergency room -- suffering from injuries to his hand and leg early Saturday morning. The patient initially reported being shot at a nearby bar; However, officers observed blood and other evidence outside the man’s residence a short time later and further investigation revealed it had actually occurred there, at 64 Heritage Drive. The Special Response Team was mobilized to the home and members made immediate entry, due to the situation reportedly involving the armed suspect, an additional shooting victim and young children also reported to be inside at the time. According to Det. Mowbray:
Antwane alleges there was "a struggle" with the murder suspect and him over a gun inside the home -- when it fired and struck Antwane. On his way to get medical attention, he reported that he noticed the body of Pershing on the floor, with multiple gunshot wounds. The woman , who had transported Antwane to the hospital, reported similar information to investigators, alleging that she noticed a gunshot wound to Pershing’s back and then saw the shooting suspect fire several more shots off at his chest. She reportedly rushed to take Antwane to the hospital and informed detectives that her 2-year-old child was left behind and was still inside the residence. Durend Randall is set to appear before Judge John Roach Friday morning in Vigo Superior Court Div. 1. He remains held in the jail with no bond allowed.
