![]() Vigo County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a McCordsville man after the suspect allegedly fired nearly 100 rounds of ammunition while on a car ride -- when he also allegedly held his girlfriend against her will and threatened her with a knife -- yesterday, according to a press release today. Dustin J. Milligin, 29, was booked into the Vigo County Jail at 4:30 a.m. yesterday. He is charged with criminal recklessness, criminal confinement, intimidation, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and possession of marijuana. He was scheduled to appear in Superior Court Div. 5 today. VCSO Chief Deputy John Moats said Mulligin allegedly was intoxicated when he picked up his girlfriend from her home in Idle Creek Subdivision. "It was then alleged that Milligin then drove his vehicle to several locations where he fired numerous 7.62 caliber bullets from an SKS semi-automatic rifle," Moats said, adding that officials estimate that Milligin may have fired between fifty and one hundred rounds of ammunition. "Milligan’s girlfriend stated that she pleaded with him to stop shooting the rifle and take her home. She said that not only did he refuse to take her home but threatened her with a knife. " According to the report, deputies responded to a call of gun shots being fired early in the morning in the southern part of the county. Officials say the incident could have ended with someone being hurt. “We’re very lucky that this investigation ended without anyone being injured. I can credit this successful conclusion to the quick response and diligent investigation of our midnight shift patrol” Moats said. As deputies continued their search they heard additional shots being fired near the Idle Creek Subdivision. As deputies searched the area of Feree Drive and Fagin Street, they spoke with several witnesses near the scene. Deputies were able locate a silver SUV at the intersection of Daws Drive and Doberman Street. "One witness advised that he had been behind a silver full sized SUV while driving on Fagin Street just south of Davis Avenue when he saw and heard the occupant(s) fire several rapid rounds from what appeared to be a high power rifle," Moats said.
