Indiana Central News A state law forbidding alcohol sales on Sundays has remained on the books for many decades. However, the governor's signature today is changing things. Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb signed Senate Bill 1 this afternoon, allowing for carryout sales of beer, wine and liquor. Grocery stores, liquor stores and convenience stores will now be able to allow carryout between the hours of noon and 8 p.m. on Sundays. The bill landed on Holcom's desk in Indianapolis just after state lawmakers passed the legislation last week. ![]()
The change in the law has been met with enthusiasm, since Indiana was the only state in the country to ban Sunday sales --- until now.
Terre Haute residents have expressed their surprise across social media, with one 46-year-old man saying he never thought he'd see the strict Sunday alcohol law changed in his lifetime. Other Hoosiers agree it's long overdue. Holcomb's action calls for the law allowing for the carryout sales to be in effect immediately. Meanwhile, vendors and stores are preparing to meet the end of the prohibition era ban of more than 80 years in just a three days --- this Sunday, March 4/ Comments are closed.
