UPDATE 6-14-17 -- Autopsy complete, victim identified as Marquise Norris, 22, of Indianapolis. See story .
--- By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News Emergency crews responded to the Wabash River in Vigo County yesterday after a man was reported to be in the water at Fairbanks Park, struggling to stay afloat before sinking out of sight at about 2:15 p.m. Indiana Conservation Officers reportedly used sonar technology to locate and recover the body of a male victim hours later. A possible second victim was not located. Investigators discovered a campsite which was determined not to be related to the drowning, ICO Nathan Lutz explained. "The search area extension located the belongings of the original victim along the shoreline and a nearby campsite on city property containing possible evidence of a violent crime scene. Terre Haute City Police Department detectives were contacted to investigate the campsite, which was determined to not be related to the water recovery," Lutz said. The incident remains under investigation. The victim's name will be released after next of kin is notified and autopsy completed. Sugar Creek Fire Department and Terre Haute City Fire Department both assisted at the scene. -- See related story Comments are closed.
