Indiana Central News Along with heavier traffic in Terre Haute during during the annual diesel event held at the fairgrounds comes heavier police action, as was evident this last weekend The Scheid Diesel Extravaganza draws large crowds from all around the country to the Vigo County Fairgrounds on Third Street. Indiana State Police join other agencies in increasing patrols during the event to deal with many problems to be expected with additional traffic. Using both marked and unmarked cars, pickup trucks and SUVs, troopers issued nearly 200 citations and more than 100 arrests on the weekend. Troopers were targeting dangerous and impaired driving, along with all alcohol - related violations --- as hundreds of diesel trucks made their way around the city. "The extra patrols were in place to ensure the safety of those attending the event as well as the motoring public, " Sgt. Matt Ames said. Police also worked to break up several large crowds gathering at parking lots around the city after leaving the Fairgrounds each night.
