Indiana Central News An Indiana State Police investigation is underway into a fight that escalated into a shooting this afternoon at a northside apartment complex -- leaving the two men with non life-threatening injuries. ISP Sgt. Joe Watts explained that an altercation occurred between the two men whom did not personally know one another, while on the third floor in a hallway of the Warren Village Housing complex located on N. 25th Street. The alleged shooter appears to have acted in self defense, according to Watts. Charles E. Dishon, 32, appears to have initiated a physical attack on Steve Hall, 62, of Terre Haute. A short time later, Dishon allegedly charged at Hall , while Hall was entering an apartment door of a family member, according to the report. "As the attack entered the apartment of Hall’s family member, Hall drew a semi-automatic handgun and fired striking Dishon in the face. Steve Hall suffered a gunshot wound to his hand during the altercation," Watts said, noting no other injuries were evident at the time.
Both men were transported to a Terre Haute hospital. Dishon was later airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of what is believed to be a non-life threatening wound.
Officers of the Terre Haute Police Department initially responded to the scene of the shooting, just after noon today. However, due to a conflict of interest in the fact that the alleged shooting suspect is a family member of a THPD officer, the department requested ISP Putnamville district take over the case, according to THPD Public Information Ryan Adamson.
