![]() Police are investigating a large methamphetamine production site they located near a public walking area this afternoon. In fact, officers were led to the location after receiving a community tip from a family with children walking in the area, Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts said. Indiana State Police Troopers from the Putnamville District Meth Suppression Team, assisted by a Vigo County Sheriff’s Office K-9 handler, reportedly discovered the production site in a wooded area near North Fruitridge Avenue and Beech Street in Terre Haute around 1 p.m. The area was near a popular public walking area known as the Heritage Trail, Watts said. He added that no arrests have been made at this point in the investigation. "Officers found and dismantled a methamphetamine production site that was capable of producing methamphetamine, as it possessed all required chemicals, apparatus, and anhydrous ammonia to produce methamphetamine," Watts explained, noting that the lab was not producing meth at the time and no finished product was found. The investigation is ongoing. Investigating officers were ISP Troopers Shilo Raulston and B.J Patterson with assistance from Vigo County Sheriff’s Deputy and K-9 Handler Larry Hopper and “Gnash.” Watts asks that anyone who believes they have information related to methamphetamine sales and or production in Parke, Vermillion, Vigo, Clay, Putnam, and Sullivan counties area, to contact the Putnamville Post at 765-653-4114. Callers can remain anonymous. Watts cautions citizens to not approach suspected meth sites or handle any meth related trash items, such as plastic bottles, tubing, battery wrappers, propane tanks, etc. Those items can be dangerous.
