Indiana Central News A teen driver was injured on an Interstate 70 exit in Terre Haute's east side when a truck driver allegedly struck her vehicle and then fled the scene of the accident late last night. Gabriella Waltz, 18, of Paris, Ill., suffered head, neck and internal injuries in the crash and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The truck driver reportedly was followed by an off-duty out - of- state police officer after the crash. The officer called 911 to report the driver was in Putnam County, where Indiana State Police troopers ultimately took him into custody.
Harjot Singh, 28, of Alberta, Canada, was booked into the Vigo County Jail, where he is charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury crash.
Waltz will also face charges after testing positive for controlled substances, Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts said, adding that a 21-year-old passenger and a 16-year-old passenger in her van were not injured nor cited. According to the report, Singh was driving a white 2016 Volvo tractor pulling a semi-trailer as he followed behind Waltz's 2008 Chrysler van around 11:30 p.m. “As the van slowed near the exit, the tractor-trailer struck the van in the rear and continued on without stopping, along eastbound I-70,” Watts explained. The crash and DUI investigation is being done by ISP Trooper Brad Fyfe. Trooper Courtland Woodruff assisted in Singh's arrest. Comments are closed.
