Indiana Central News A man armed with a knife was arrested after multipe law enforcement agencies responded to large fight outside of a grocery store on Terre Haute's east side early Saturday morning. Michael J. Byrer, 30, of Terre Haute, was booked into the Vigo County Jail just before 1:30 a.m. He is charged with battery resulting in bodily injury, resisting law enforcement,intimidation and possession of a schedule I-IV controlled substance. Terre Haute Police Department officers were dispatched to the Kroger at 25th Street and Wabash Avenue around 12:30 a.m. The suspect was allegedly holding a knife in the fight outside on the parking lot. He also reportedly had a female held by the hair. According to scanner traffic, callers were reporting that "the white male with tattoos was holding a knife and attacking people." Upon officers arrival, the suspect attempted to flee on foot a short distance and continued to resist police after he was apprehended. Indiana State University Police and Indiana State Police arrived to assist at the scene and break up the crowd. Byrer was taken into custody a short time later. A Terre Haute Fire Department ambulance was dispactched to the scene, however no one requested medical attention at the time. Witnesses at the scene said alcohol was a factor in the brawl.
