UPDATE 2-6-20 John H. Gonzalez was transported to the Vigo County Jail 2-6-20 around 5 p.m. He was wanted on a warrant for sexual battery and probation violation in Vigo County . He also is facing the Putnam Co. murder and auto theft charges and will be transferred soon. Original story below: ![]() By Lucy Perry Indianai Central News PUTNAM COUNTY - A Terre Haute man is accused of recently killing his older girlfriend -- a Greencastle woman. John H. Gonzalez, 28, was located in Rock Island County, Illinois and taken into custody Monday. He is charged with the murder of Melissa “Lisa” Attkisson, 44. Gonzalez has a history of domestic battery arrests, according to online records. Putnam County Coroner Dave Brown ruled the cause of death as blunt force trauma. The homicide investigation began Jan. 28 at 11:30 p.m. when 911 Dispatch received a call of a possible deceased person at 107 E Berry St. in Greencastle, where the suspect was also known to stay. Greencaslte officers worked throughout the night securing the scene, applying for search warrants, according to the department. Information in the investigation led detectives to Illinois, where the victim's stolen vehicle was also found.
