A suspect was arrested on several charges last night after leading officers from the Terre Haute Police Department on a chase in a vehicle with an allegedly stolen license plate.
Brandon, Segers, 26, of Chicago, was booked into the Vigo County Jail at about 10:30 p.m. on charges of criminal recklessness, theft and resisting law enforcement. The investigation began when an officer located a suspicious vehicle near the Red Roof Inn, located off South Third Street near Margaret Avenue. The license plate inquiry showed the plate had been reported as stolen, Sgt. Michael Ellerman said. Once the suspect noticed the officer, he fled the scene in the Chrysler PT Cruiser. Other units arrived to assist the officer.
"Officers activated emergency lights and sirens and engaged in a vehicle pursuit with the suspect vehicle. After a pursuit that lasted several minutes, the suspect slowed and officers could see the driver and front seat passenger switch places. After the passenger began driving the vehicle immediately stopped and officers were able to secure the vehicle and occupants without incident," Ellerman said, noting the other occupants of the vehicle were not charged and were released at the scene.
