Indiana Central News VERMILLION COUNTY -Three suspects from Terre Haute were arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop in Cayuga yesterday in which officials believe may very well have saved one of the suspect's lives. Booked into the Vermillion County Jail:
The quick actions of multiple agencies responding to assist Cayuga Deputy Town Marshal Keith Warner at the scene successfully brought a passenger in the vehicle back to consciousness following a drug overdose that caused him to stop breathing. Several syringes, spoons and a small quantity of heroin were located inside the suspect vehicle during subsequent investigation. The three reportedly had traveled to Danville, Illinois earlier, where they had purchased the heroin. According to the report, Warner was on patrol yesterday when he noticed the vehicle driving recklessly into the parking lot of the McClure's Gas station around 9: 45 p.m. He initiated a traffic stop as the vehicle entered the parking lot and observed the driver throwing a large plastic cup from the vehicle. The other occupants of the vehicle became frantic as they explained that the male was not responsive. April Brian exited the vehicle, running into the gas station, while disregarding commands to stop, as Heather Brian was screaming that Eason had stopped breathing. Warner confirmed Eason was not breathing and pulled him from the vehicle, immediately starting CPR. Deputy Troy Vaughn of the Vermillion County Sheriff's Office arrived on scene and administered two rounds of nasal Narcan while Marshal Warner continued CPR and applied the AED. Only after a second round of nasal Narcan did Eason regain consciousness. Illiana EMS arrived on scene and administered a dose of Narcan intravenously, bringing him to, but he still appeared disoriented. He was then transported to a Terre Haute hospital for medical treatment, before being released to the jail -- Assisting Officers: Deputy Marshal Roger Lewis, Deputy Troy Vaughn, Deputy Chad Hennis, and Reserve Deputy Larry Davis, Cayuga Fire and Rescue and Illiana EMS.
