One dead in fiery morning crash in Vigo County

A fiery crash claimed the life of one victim in southern Vigo County Wednesday morning.

The victim's name has not released, pending family notification. 

Emergency crews responded to the fatal single-vehicle accident on Cottom Drive, just east of Briggs Street, around 7:45 a.m.

According to Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse, the car was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed. It left the roadway, crashed into a tree and caught fire.

​The Fatal Accident Reconstruction Team assisted at the scene. The investigation is ongoing. More information will be released as the investigation permits.
