UPDATE 4-15-20: Indiana State Police Sgt. Matt Ames reported yesterday that autopsy and forensic evidence revealed that Errol K. Bolin died as the result of a gunshot wound from a law enforcement officer.
The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department Deputy, Elias A. Donker - a two -year veteran officer- who was involved in the gunfire exchange during the officer involved shooting on April 11 has been placed on administrative leave. This is customary in officer involved shootings. -- UPDATE 4-13-20 - The Indiana State Police released the name of the deceased victim in the recent police-action shooting in West Terre Haute: Errol K. Bolin, 51, of Seelyville, Indiana. No further information is available at this time. -- By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News WEST TERRE HAUTE- One person is dead after a shootout with police Saturday morning in rural Vigo County. Information is limited at this time, including the the name the deceased male, as the Indiana State Police investigation is underway. Meanwhile, an autopsy is expected to be conducted soon. Vigo County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of a suspicious person in a wooded area, near a farm field, at W. Illana Drive and S. Crews Place in West Terre Haute around 7: 20 a.m. Upon arrival, deputies found an abandoned white SUV with the rear window broken out. ISP Sgt. Matt Ames explained that the officers tried to make contact with the individual by using a loud speaker, assuming he was nearby. He was. "It was at this time that the subject then began to shoot at the deputies. They immediately took cover and called for assistance, indicating shots were fired," he said. Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies quickly surrounded the area. The suspect reportedly disregarded all commands to drop his weapon and put his hands up. Instead, Ames said the suspect continued to fire at the officers. Finally, officers could see him in the wooded area. "The subject then pointed the weapon towards them and shot directly at the officers giving the commands," More gunfire was exchanged and the scene became quiet.. A short time later, the Terre Haute Special Response Team arrived and were able to determine that the subject was dead, according to Ames.
