A man remains hospitalized in serious condition after a Terre Haute Police officer shot the suspect during a confrontation at a residence early this morning.
Quintin M. Towles Jr, 25,of Terre Haute, was airlifted to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, after first being transported to a local hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds suffered in the incident. The name of the officer is expected to be released in a few days. Indiana State Police from the Putnamville Post is leading the investigation after Towles allegedly pointed a gun at the police officer at the south side residence, prompting the officer to fire his gun in response. According to ISP Sgt.Joe Watts, preliminary investigation revealed that Vigo County Central Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute between a man and a woman in the 2100 block of Cleveland Avenue just before 1 a.m. Reportedly, a second call was received from a woman at 2122 Cleveland Avenue reporting at least one gunshot round entered her home through the front door shortly after the first emergency call. "The first officer, upon exiting his patrol car, heard loud arguing between multiple persons on the enclosed porch of 2118 Cleveland Avenue," Watts said, adding that the two-year veteran officer then entered the porch area and was immediately confronted by the agitated suspect. "The suspect brandished a black revolver and according to the officer and witnesses, was told numerous times to drop the weapon. The suspect refused, causing the officer to discharge his firearm and neutralize the threat,"Watts said. Evidence was recovered at the scene and will be analyzed by experts at the Indiana State Police Laboratory. At the conclusion of this investigation, all reports will be submitted to the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office for a full review. The Terre Haute Police Department and the Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office are assisting in the investigation. Terre Haute Fire/EMS responded to the scene as the medical provider. Comments are closed.
