Indiana Central News WEST TERRE HAUTE -- A West Terre Haute man was arrested on a warrant Friday following serious threats he allegedly made to a woman and her two children the previous night. Cody W Morris, 27, was taken into custody at an address in Terre Haute and booked into the Vigo County Jail, where he is charged with domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16; domestic battery by means of a deadly weapon, criminal confinement where the victim is under 14; criminal confinement while armed with a deadly weapon; interference with the reporting of a crime; and intimidation with a deadly weapon.
The West Terre Haute Police Department investigation began when the woman reported the domestic battery Friday morning at the police station. She alleged the incident had occured the night before at a Lee Avenue residence.
According to the report, the suspect became angry after an argument, taking the victim's phone and allegedly threatened to shoot the victim and children in the hiome. "Morris made threats of physical violence and then retrieved two handguns, and according to the victim, put one of the weapons against her forehead and made threats to shoot her and her two children," The WTHPD press release states. Officials say Morris, in a fit of rage, then proceeded to break more items and even cut off electricity to the home. Morris allegedly smashed the victim’s cell phone with a hammer and also allegedly broke the house phone, while he held the family against their will. "After several attempts to leave, Morris finally agreed to let the victim and juveniles to do so," according to the report, however, Morris allegedly "shut the power off to the residence and left the victims in the dark.
