A Clay City man was arrested after police found marijuana hidden in a food sack in the suspect's vehicle during a routine traffic stop on the east side of Terre Haute this afternoon.
Michael Austin Rogers, 23, was booked into the Vigo County Jail at 3 p.m.. He is charged with operating while intoxicated-refusal; possession of marijuana; and possession of paraphernalia. "A search of the vehicle yielded approximately 22 grams of suspected marijuana inside a fast food sack on the front passenger floorboard," Indiana State Police Sgt. Joe Watts said. Master Trooper Jason Schoffstall stopped the silver 2001 Dodge Neon for 51 miles-per-hour in a 30 mph zone, westbound on Hulman Street near Watertree Subdivision at about 2:30 p.m. During conversations with the driver, Master Trooper Schoffstall reportedly noticed a strong odor of what appeared to be burnt marijuana inside the vehicle as well as other criminal indicators. Rogers was taken into custody and subsequently refused a chemical test for intoxication, Watts said. Assisting at the scene was ISP Master Trooper Hans Nowak. Comments are closed.
