A local woman was arrested on a warrant after police say she helped another suspect try to rob a man at gunpoint in his Terre Haute apartment Wednesday.
Oceana Armstrong, 29, of Terre Haute, was booked into the Vigo County Jail Wednesday around 3 p.m. and charged with burglary, armed robbery, intimidation and pointing a firearm at another person. According to the probable cause affidavit, filed by Det. Julia Piety, of the Terre Haute Police Department, the alleged attempted armed robbery took place at the victim's S. 13th Street apartment following a dispute over money. The victim explained to police that the two suspects -- one of which has not been arrested yet -- were his friends. The other suspect named in the case, Tyler Jackson, 29, also of Terre Haute, allegedly was going to buy a moped from the victim. The two had recently gone to a local retailer to purchase a new battery together for it . Ultimately, they decided to return the battery to the store and the store would not issue a refund at the time. Instead, a refund check would be sent by mail to the victim's residence, they were told. Jackson reportedly became angry and impatient over the weekend, wanting his money back. He allegedly texted the victim and said he would be coming for the money, although the victim stated the check had not come in the mail yet. The duo allegedly barged in the apartment, entering the bedroom and yelling. "He [victim] said that Tyler told Oceana to give him the gun --- and Oceana took a black .22cal handgun out of her purse and handed it to Tyler," according to the affidavit. The victim reportedly said that Tyler pointed the gun at his face and said, "Bitch, you better give me the f---ing money. I'm done playing with you." He said that Tyler told him he had until that night and said he would be back to get it, according to court documents. The victim was able to get his phone to call 911, and they left his apartment.
