Lucy Perry Indiana Central News Officials estimate around 50 roads are closed in the Vigo County area at this time due to heavy rainfall, while chances for even more rain is in the forecast.. Central Indiana will continue to be pelted with another couple inches of rain tomorrow, worsening existing issues with flooded roadways and a swelling Wabash River from the weeklong downpour. Superintendent Danny Tanoos announced this afternoon that the Vigo County School Corp. would be closed tomorrow due to the flooding of area roadways. Tanoos cited concern for the safety of bus drivers and students as a reason for the cancellation of classes and extra curricular activities. Students will need to make up the missed school day on May 26. According to officials at the U.S. National Weather Service in Indianapolis, A flash flood watch remains in effect for Central Indiana until tomorrow afternoon, with rain expected to be heavy at times and temperatures will remain in the 50s. Meanwhile, emergency crews responded to several crashes and slideoffs due to the weather today, including a semi that slid off into a ditch near Ivy Tech on South U.S. 41. A few drivers also reportedly lost control of vehicles and crashed into ravines. Vigo County 911 urges drivers to use caution when traveling.
