Indiana Central News A Terre Haute man wanted for allegedly raping a woman Wednesday led multiple agencies on a police chase yesterday that began in southern Vigo County and ended hours later, in West Terre Haute. Harry C. Custer, 42, was booked into the Vigo County Jail at about 2:30 p.m. He is charged with felony criminal recklessness, resisting law enforcement, rape, criminal confinement, battery, intimidation and strangulation. The alleged sexual battery occurred when the woman was looking for her dog and was approached by the suspect, whom she did not know. While he was armed with knife, the victim stated Custer held her against her will and forced her to perform/submit to him sexually on July 12, according to the probable cause affidavit. He restrained her hands with electrical tape and placed a sock in her mouth until forcing her to perform oral sex on him, He allegedly warned her not to tell anyone what happened or “he knows where she lives.” He also allegedly strangled her to the point of unconsciousness, according to the documents. Sheriff Greg Ewing described Custer as armed and dangerous, explaining the urgency behind capturing Custer yesterday. Ultimately, Custer was reportedly apprehended after police received a tip of his whereabouts after fleeing across the Wabash River and was seen walking in the area, soaking wet. Custer's initial hearing is scheduled in Vigo Superior Court 3 this morning. Comments are closed.
