Indiana Central News Recovery efforts continue today in search of an adult body believed to be in the Wabash River. Initially, reports were that the person observed going into the river last night at Fairbanks Park in Terre Haute was a female. Today, officials are saying they believe it was a 22-year-old man with long hair. ‘Our investigators, throughout the course of the night, have strong reasons to believe this was a male,” Terre Haute Police Chief Shawn Keen said today, noting that a parent contacted police with identifying information. The identity of that person has not been made public at this time. Emergency crews began searching the river around 6 p.m yesterday, just after receiving multiple reports regarding a person seen heading on foot towards the water and then pulling off his sweatshirt -- before quickly vanishing. The temperature was about 35 degrees outside as it quickly got dark out during the beginning of the search yesterday, impeding efforts. Crews returned to the river early this morning to resume searching for the body. -- See related story Comments are closed.
