--- UPDATE 9/14/17 - A dealership located just where the crash occurred has reported a service truck being stolen from its US 41 lot. The hit-and-run suspect allegedly ran from the vehicle he crashed and was seen on surveillance footage taking off with the truck as officers arrived at the scene.. Also, officials report the two motorcycle victims have been released from the hospital. --- By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News A Vigo County Sheriff’s Office investigation is continuing tonight after a theft suspect fled a local retailer, crashing into two motorcyclists this evening during a police pursuit from the store. The suspect ultimately fled the scene on foot after crashing his red vehicle into a nearby ditch. Both crash victims, middle - aged men whom reportedly are brothers, suffered serious head trauma after being thrown from their motorcycles on South US 41, Sheriff Greg Ewing said at the scene, noting one of the victims is police officer in Wisconsin. Just after 8 p.m. , deputies attempted to stop the suspect as he left Terre Haute’s southside Walmart. “That person failed to stop for deputies. A pursuit then ensued. The vehicle struck , we believe, one of the motorcyclists, causing one of the motorcycles to crash into the other motorcycle – sending both of them off of their bikes,” Ewing said. The suspect lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a ditch near the Harley Davidson shop , just north of Springhill Drive and US 41. He then fled from the vehicle and police. Indiana State Police K-9s are assisting VCSO deputies and K-9s in the search near the scene for the suspect, described as late 20s or early 30s. He is about 5-feet, 9-inches tall with a slender build. He also has a mustache. More information will be provided once it becomes available. -- 9/15/17 -See updated story Comments are closed.
