By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News One female was injured when she was struck by gunfire early this morning in a drive by shooting. on Terre Haute's north side Emergency crews were dispatched to the 1900 block of N. Sixth Street at the housing projects, located just north of Union Hospital, around 12:30 a.m. A witness at the scene said the victim was estimated to be in her late teens. She reportedly was shot in the abdomen. Officials have not confirmed that information. Terre Haute Police Department investigators arrived on scene a short time later. The victim was transported by ambulance to Regional Hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the shooting. According to scanner traffic, a male in a black car shot from the sunroof and then fled the scene. The Vigo County Sheriff's Office, Indiana State Police and West Terre Haute Police Department officers assisted at the scene, which was chaotic at times with a large group of people standing around the apartment complex. Family members were emotional with what had occurred. Multiple agencies also searched for the suspect vehicle. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
