Indiana Central News Strong winds have wreaked havoc locally, with reports of trees and power lines down all across the area. The National Weather Service has not confirmed reports of tornadoes at this time. According to scanner traffic, tornadoes in the area of Sullivan and in Terre Haute -- around Margaret Avenue near S. Seventh Street --have been reported as witnessed by residents. Large trees have been reported down on main roadways, including near Fruitridge Avenue, Hulman Street and Margaret Avenue. No serious injuries have been reported at this time. A home located just off Margaret Avenue, near South Seventh Street, was hit particularly hard. A resident inside the home said everyone is OK. He described hearing a loud sound before a large tree was uprooted out front and then crashed onto parked vehicles. Another tree on the side of the residence crashed on the home. Power has not been restored in all locations. Street lights are not working at many intersections. Roadways have not been cleared of debris. Duke Energy's website reports more than 16,000 customers without power at midnight in the Terre Haute area. Comments are closed.
