Indiana Central News SULLIVAN - A Sullivan County retail theft investigation has landed one Terre Haute man in jail after officials allege he stole more than $4,720 in merchandise from a local Walmart. Bryan S. Tomey, 40, was booked into the Sullivan County Jail last night, where he is held on $8,000 bond, with no 10 percent allowed. Meanwhile, Tomey is also being held for Dubois County on a warrant for Theft, with no bond allowed. Sullivan County Sheriff Clark Cottom explained today that Tomey reportedly has an extensive criminal history throughout Indiana. "According to Walmart officials, he is banned from all Walmart properties because of multiple theft cases," he said. Cottom credits Detective Ron Elliott with closing down what he considers a large-scale retail theft ring while working with Vigo County detectives in identifying Tomey, whom together ultimately located and the suspect and took him into custody late last night at the Super 8 Motel, near Honey Creek Mall in Terre Haute. Investigation revealed that Tomey and an alleged accomplice were observed inside the Sullivan Walmart by loss prevention staff, removing a child car seat from its box. "Tomey then stuffed the box with electronics and other expensive merchandise," Cottom said, adding, "Tomey then had an accomplice take the loot filled box through the check-out register." The incident was captured on security video. Officials have not named Tomey's alleged accomplice at this time, as the investigation is ongoing. Comments are closed.
