UPDATE- Vernon Eversole, 46, of Terre Haute, was arrested this morning and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon and petition to revoke pre-trial placement. His alleged connection to the homicide case by the suspect, Ashley Johnson, has not been confirmed by police at this time.
--- By Lucy Perry Indiana Central News Ashley L. Johnson, 31, of Terre Haute, was arrested at her Seventh Avenue residence late Friday afternoon, just hours after a man was fatally shot another northside residence. Johnson was booked into the Vigo County Jail just before 5 p.m. She is charged with felony murder, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, obstruction of justice, possession of paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine and trafficking with an inmate. She is scheduled for an initial court appearance Nov. 1 in Vigo Superior Court 6 before Judge Michael Lewis and remains held, with no bond allowed. According to the probable cause affidavit prepared by Det. Keith Mowbray, of the Terre Haute Police Department, Johnson confessed that an accomplice, Vernon Eversole, allegedly was involved in the shooting --- just after she learned the victim, David Carroll, 34, was dead. Eversole is wanted on an arrest warrant at this time. "Johnson stated she told Eversole about David being mean to her, so he told her to go back to the residence and he would take care of it," according to the affidavit. She reportedly began arguing with the victim again, when Eversole stepped out of the darkness near the garage, wearing a mask and pointing a gun at Carroll. Johnson reportedly informed detectives another unknown male suspect was with Eversole. When Eversole asked where his "dope"was and Johnson replied it was in Carroll's pocket, Eversole reportedly chased the victim into the garage and that is when Johnson said she heard the shot fired. She informed detectives that Eversole exited the garage and told her he had shot Carroll and they all fled from the scene in their vehicles. The shooting occurred at a house belonging to George Thornton, located at 4421 N. 18th St. at around 6:30 a.m. The victim, Carroll, and Johnson reportedly were out by the garage, fighting, while the homeowner was eating breakfast. Thornton informed detectives at the scene that he heard a loud boom followed by Carroll stumbling into the house claiming, "she shot me." Thornton called 911, when Carroll was found to be unresponsive. He died from the gunshot wound a short time later. Meanwhile, detectives took the suspect to police headquarters for questioning --- where, according to the documents, Johnson initially denied knowing about the shooting. During a pat down of the Johnson at police headquarters, a detective found a glass pipe with residue sticking out of her bra. Later, during a strip search and while changing into jail attire, two baggies of crystal-like substance were found in her bra. It later tested positive for meth. -- See related story Comments are closed.
